Mr. Fouad Makhzoumi, Executive Chairman and CEO of Future Pipe Industries, Named Buck Institute Trustee of Board

Novato, CA – Six new members were appointed to the Buck Institute Board of Trustees today including prominent Bay Area civic and business leaders as well as physicians from Mayo Clinic and Duke University. The Buck also appointed its first international trustee. All will begin three-year terms on January 1, 2014.

Mr. Makhzoumi joins five other new Trustees of Board who will start their three-year terms on the 1st of January:

  • Roy Eisenhardt, former president of the Oakland A’s and now a trustee of the California Pacific Medical Foundation and a lecturer in law at the University of California, Berkeley.
  • John Larson, a retired San Francisco lawyer who now works on Buck’s technology transfer committee.
  • Catherine Munson, who was chair of Buck’s board of trustees from 2010 to 2012 and is now returning to the board after a year off. She is CEO of LVPMarin Realtors.
  • Franklyn Prendergast, M.D., a professor of biochemistry, molecular biology and pharmacology at the Mayo Clinic.
  • Ralph Snyderman, M.D., chancellor emeritus of Duke University and a professor of medicine there. He was the first CEO of the Duke University Health System and he worked at Genentech Inc.

The Buck Institute does research on what it calls “geroscience” – where healthy aging and chronic disease meet each other. The institute seeks to lengthen the normal healthy lifespan of human beings.
